Benefits of Becoming a U.S. Citizen

Exercize the right to vote in federal elections. 

• Serve on a federal jury.                                     

• Bring family members to the United States.

• Travel with a U.S. passport, which enables you to obtain assistance from the U.S. government in a foreign country.

• Extend your citizenship to a child born abroad.

• Be eligible for certain federal jobs available for U.S. citizens only.

• Run for federal office.

• Be elegible for federal grants and scholarships.

Eligibility

 Live in the U.S. for at least 5 years as a permanent resident or 3 years if married to a U.S. citizen.

• Be present in the U.S. for at least 30 months out of past 5 years or 18 months out of past 3 years.

• Live within a district or state in which you are applying for citizenship for the past 3 months.

• Know English and the U.S. history and government.

• Understand and accept the Constitution. 

• Posses good moral character.

Registration is required. Course fee is $50. Course materials provided include the following:

• Book & CD with practice questions and answers required to study for the test.

• Book about the U.S. Constitution and the Declaration of Independence.

• Access to computer lab equipped with Internet and headset to practice questions.
